When encountering students who appear to be struggling, faculty, staff and other students make best efforts to guide these students to campus services.
All information, including the name of the person reporting, may be included in the report that will be shared with the alleged student in question. Frivolous or vexatious reports may result in disciplinary action.
What to report?
Douglas College is committed to the health and safety of all members of our community. This reporting system is one element of a safe and supportive campus community. Any behavior that is believed to be in violation of the Standards of Student Conduct A20 should be reported.
- Significant disruption to the learning environment
- Hostility, intimidation, anxiety or disrespect
- Behaviors that contradict published regulations, safety standards
- Violation of standards of conduct for practicum placements
- Damage to college property
- Any behavior that may be considered harassment, discrimination or sexual harassment as defined in Sexual Harassment and Personal Discrimination policy A02.09.01 may be investigated under this policy. Additional information on sexual violence can be found Sexual Violence - Education and Support

Who should use this form?
This referral form is for the use of all members of the Douglas community who encounter student behaviours that they are concerned about. We encourage anyone who has observed students in distress within the college setting to use this form.
What happens once this form is filled out?
Once this form has been submitted, you may be contacted by the OSSC for additional information. Once the necessary information has been gathered, we may reach out to the student (this is determined on a case by case basis) to discuss the incident and possible sanctions. During the meeting, students are provided with information regarding appropriate resources and referrals. Some referrals require additional attention. Following the meeting the OSSC may discuss the situation with Campus Security, Student Affairs, Counselling or Accessibility Services to discuss additional supports, appropriate consequences and next steps. This information is collected under the authority of the BC FREEDOM OF INFORMATION AND PROTECTION OF PRIVACY ACT.
