What is Collaborate?
Collaborate is an online classroom and meeting tool (similar to Skype). Check with your instructor if the tool is being used in your course for online class, online office hours, or student collaboration sessions.
Collaborate sessions can be an effective substitute for in-person classes and meetings. For example, a class might meet at a specific time online, and participate as the instructor delivers his or her lecture, shows a PowerPoint presentation, distributes digital handouts, and shares their desktop.

If you need some experience before a class session, follow these steps:
- Log in to Blackboard Community .
- Click Student Resources in the top green horizontal menu. There are three tabs at the top left of the screen: General, How To, and Career Centre. Click each tab to view its contents.
- Now click the General tab. Now click on Get Started with Blackboard. This is an actual Blackboard course for students, which enables you to interact with Blackboard tools and features that may be used in your courses.
- In the left navigation bar, click Learn about Blackboard Collaborate Ultra to practise with Collaborate Ultra and to view the resources available.
