THIS EVENT HAS CONCLUDED FOR THE WINTER SEMESTER.

We've made it to the end! Congratulations to all the teams who completed the DC Virtual Challenge. Our journey began roughly 6 weeks ago with 42 students and 108 college employees set to track their fitness activities to reach the 120km goal. Along the way, we visited (virtually of course) a new destination each week, taking in the sights and sounds of each location via curated virtual hike videos featuring beach walks and panoramic trail hikes. At the conclusion of each week, each team earned a set of reward badges based on their efforts throughout the week; some badges were fun and easy, while others required the team's full participation.

While the event "bells and whistles" worked as motivation for some, for others, the accountability provided by tracking their activities was enough to keep them motivated. We saw some outstanding efforts put forward by many individuals who changed their daily routines to make space for some exercise time throughout the week. Some were pleasantly surprised at how an after-dinner stroll, or a lunch time walk, tracked over the course of a week can add up km's!

Many comments were also shared around how individuals were able to make connections with other people in their department team. There was a tremendous amount of support shown via the comments and kudos (Strava version of a Facebook Like) given on peoples posted activities. It may have been a 2km walk or a 80km ride, our community was there supporting and encouraging each other through activity. Roary even made it on a couple of activities thanks to Maria Kalinina from DCI (photo below). This was the most heartening outcome of this event and exemplifies the family atmosphere that is cultivated at Douglas.

And finally, congratulations to Rick Bennet on winning the grand prize draw of a FITBIT Inspire 2 and Royals swag pack!
